USC Is Going Green

With the new year comes new challenges, particularly as the forces of climate change begin to show its devastating effects across the globe forcing businesses and individuals to rethink their priorities. Hollywood is no stranger to this crisis but when it comes to the process of moviemaking, sets can be a surprisingly unsustainable endeavor, environmentally speaking.  With an industry that is trying to change hearts and minds, it became apparent that it needs to lead by example - and it all starts with the next generation.

USC MISC + GFSA

In the summer of 2020, film studios and television companies from Universal Pictures to HBO approached SCA about the prospect of training students in eco-friendly moviemaking.  The result is the Green Film School Alliance (GFSA), a collection of film schools including USC, AFI, CalArts, Champan, UCLA, NYU, along with the Sustainable Production Alliance (SPA) to promote and reduce the impact of physical production on the environment and create industry-level sustainable production standards and best practices for the film schools’ programs and curricula.

MISC is a proud sponsor of the Green Film School Alliance and its mission, and you can read more about this exciting news at USC’s official News release here — The Silver Screen Goes Green at USC School of Cinematic Arts
