Make a Film! Win a Cash Prize! Vote with SCA Votes!
/SCA Votes is launching a film competition to encourage everyone to vote in the upcoming Fall election. Make sure your voice is heard!
The 2020 VOTE! MOVIE FILM COMPETITION invites students to create a short to engage and encourage your community to VOTE! First Prize winner will get $1500, the Second Prize winner $1000, and the Third Prize winner $500. Winners to be announced at our awards ceremony on October 18.
The competition is open to all SCA students, using film, video, animation and/or new media, to tell your story about what it means to Vote. All entries are welcome, whether you vote here in the USA or in your home country. Tell us what voting means to you – the act, the promise, the responsibility, the hope. Your work should be 2 minutes or less, your mission to challenge and excite audiences, inspiring them to make a difference.
Films will need to be completed, and submitted, by October 14, 2020. They can be color or black and white, fiction or non-fiction, sound or silent, drama or comedy. They can be an extremely personal or an extremely objective view of voting but should convey what voting means to you in a way that inspires others to vote.
Films are to be made following the SCA virtual filming and Covid protocols.
Why is your vote so important? In 2016 only 61% of all eligible voters cast a ballot, and in 2018 that number shrunk to 53%.
With less than two months until election day, SCA Votes wants to make sure that everyone registers to vote. In addition to the SCA Votes Film Festival, there will be a registration campaign, providing resources for voters to get informed about the issues from local policies to the federal level. We’ve started a weekly countdown on our social media as a reminder of the election deadline.
Regardless of political party or stance, we implore everyone to make their voice heard by participating in the democratic process.
