Films To Watch About Race And Policing
/We believe that storytelling enables us to reflect, learn, and engage in issues of social justice. Stories are powerful tools that spark conversations, opening the doors for us to change our perspectives. As civics educator Eric Liu says, a story is “the catalytic agent for changing the status quo.”
As we examine and work to dismantle America’s systemic racism, MISC has been reflecting on films that have the power to incite change. We want to share this list from NYU film professor Craigh Barboza on CNN.com.
The films on the list are wide ranging, from "Harriet" (2019) to "Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song" (1971). Barboza explains that these films all “put a human face on timely and difficult social justice issues that have shifted the conversation on racial equality in America in a way that only movies can do.”
Please watch, talk, share, and keep fighting.
